|In the Animal Crossing games, you've always been allowed to design your own clothes, signs, carpets, and posters.
In the 3DS game Animal Crossing: New Leaf, however, there's even an option for those of us without any artistic talent.
With the new QR code reader, found in The Able Sisters shop, you can immediately import textures and textiles from other, more talented villagers.
The creator of iOS app QR MyDesign Assistant has borrowed this handy new feature to help you turn any photograph or image into an Animal Crossing-compatible code. Here's how to use it in a few easy steps.
Hat tip to Tiny Cartridge for finding the app.
Download the free iPhone app QR MyDesign Assistant. You can get it on the App Store here. It isn't made for the iPad, but it still works as intended on a tablet. |
Choose the 'Convert' tab at the bottom of the screen, then hit the 'Pick' button in the top-right corner. You can choose 'MyDesign' to make a floor, sign, or item of clothing. Or you can choose 'Board' to make a custom face cutout standee. |
Choose a picture from your iOS photo library. Simple and clear images with not many colours work best. You can then crop the image to import just a specific part of the picture. |
Here's what it will look like in the game. You can give it a name, and then hit 'to QR' to see your code.Get the code up on the screen of your phone, and then dig out your 3DS. |
Load up Animal Crossing: New Leaf, head to Main Street, and enter the Able Sisters clothes shop. Now, to gain access to the QR code reader (a.k.a. the sewing machine), you'll need to have befriended Sable. This means talking to her every day for about a week or two (to finally coax her out of her shyness).Once Sable becomes your pal, you'll see a big old machine in the back of the room (like in the screenshot above). |
Done that? Okay, cool. Use the machine and choose 'Read a QR Code'. You'll also need to choose a spot in your texture library to save the custom design. Then, point the 3DS camera at your phone, and line the QR code up with the frame. |
And you're done. You'll now have your photo in your design library, and can use it wherever you want. Here, I've stuck a photo of Mario on my town flag. Because why the bloody hell not. |

Nintendo's Animal Crossing Direct event - What's the story with Welcome amiibo?
The latest Animal Crossing New Horizons update from Nintendo has finally given us the ability to “dream” in game. Or really, to travel to other players’ islands and visit every corner, anytime we want, without the owner’s watchful eye! Obviously, as a major Disney fan who is also trying to add Disney elements to her own island, I was so ready to finally be able to visit all of the best Disney themed dream addresses on my own.
There are so many amazing islands to visit, and without an official search system in the game, they can be difficult to find. I have scoured every corner of the internet and Animal Crossing social media, from Instagram, to Twitter, to Reddit and Pinterest, in order to find the best Disney themed Animal Crossing islands to checkout and create this list. So while you might not be able to physically visit the Disney parks anytime soon, touring these Disney themed Animal Crossing dream addresses can fill in a bit of that magic in the meantime.
Here’s the list of some of my favorite Disney themed Animal Crossing dream addresses that I’ve visited so far:
Disneyland Dream Island
I don’t want to play favorites, but if I had to choose one from this list, I have to give it to Ron from ACNH_Disneyland on Instagram. This island is basically a full replica of Disneyland, at least as close as you could get in an Animal Crossing game. It is perfect. I mean, you can even sit on the benches of a log flume on Splash Mountain. I recommend setting aside some time to tour this one because of its incredible detail.

Walt Disney World Inspired Dream Island
This island’s Walt Disney World section does not span the whole map like others on this list, and as such, is a more unique tour. Though there are definitely Disney touches throughout, like hidden Mickeys and customized furniture items (featuring the one and only, Figment). While you’re there, don’t miss the spot on Tower of Terror recreation!

Gorgeous Disney Movie Themed Dream Island
This place is a screenshot paradise. Seems like everywhere you go there’s a picture perfect Disney movie inspired scene set great for in-game selfies. There’s everything from Alice in Wonderland to Winnie the Pooh to Snow White complete with the Seven Dwarves. Come dressed for pictures!

Incredible Disney Parks Themed Dream Island
This island is incredibly creative, a fantastic use of space, and overall a must see. There’s so much to explore: an amazing Cinderella Castle replica, full blown rides, and six fully expanded homes, each with its own theme. I laughed out loud at the “administrative” building next to Able Sisters, complete with a surveillance office and the famous “Disney jail.”

A Fun Disneyland Park Inspired Dream Island
This island is SO fun! The houses are so cute (I LOVED the Haunted Mansion themed one), and the outdoor “buildings” they’ve created are also so well built and creative. I actually felt like I was at Disneyland while I was visiting this island. You can actually take a “ride” on Autopia, or grab a Dole Whip before enjoying Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Definitely make time to check out this island!

Tokyo Disneyland Dream Island
This island is stunning! Practically every square inch of this island is covered in items and furniture to recreate Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea. While I have not yet been to those parks myself, I am sure that visiting this island is the next best thing. It is unbelievably detailed and a thoroughly enjoyable tour – a must see!

The Perfect Disney Themed Dream Island
This island is incredible! The creator has seamlessly made over 28 different Disney character themed spots (great for photos!), and several Disney attractions to enjoy. Everything on this island just works so well together and the photo-ops are amazing. And it’s so fun to try and find all of the characters. This is another one that I recommend you don’t skip!

An Entire Walt Disney World Vacation Dream Island
Though the name of this island is EPCOT, it is actually not just one park, it is an entire Walt Disney World vacation on an Animal Crossing island. This island is so fun to visit as a Disney fan, because there are so many incredible details everywhere, and EIGHT full houses! You can visit all four theme parks, Walt’s house (!!), Blizzard Beach waterpark, several Disney resorts, or dine at Be Our Guest restaurant. I mean, you can even have a firework show at EPCOT itself…it’s perfect.

An Interactive and Super Unique Disney Dream Island
The Disney touches on this island are unique, and are so fun to explore. I loved that this island’s creator puts photo spot markings on the ground so you know the best place to stand for a perfect shot. There’s four full houses, an Alice in Wonderland themed hedge maze, a Frontierland obstacle course, and so much more! Make sure to check out the bulletin board at Resident Services before touring for the full scoop of what to see and do.

Magic Kingdom Inspired Dream Island
This island is an amazing recreation of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The photo-ops here are so legit. Everything from the train station at the entrance, to Small World, to Big Thunder Mountain, and even the Tangled Bathrooms! They’ve even built ride vehicles for some of the rides too. I’d say this island is absolutely a must-see and such a fun visit.

A Fairytale Core Disney Dream Island
This island is literally a dream. It is total fairycore meets Disney. This island is special because it is more Disney movie related than theme park related. There are tons of movie scenes to check out and photograph like Belle’s village, or Elsa’s frozen ice castle. The creator also has a specified step-by-step tour route listed at ACNHTour at this link if you’re looking for a self-guided tour!

Tropical Disney Resort Dream Island
Animal Crossing New Leaf Stand Cut Our Qr Code Link Generator
This is the only island on this list that is both fully Disney themed, but also fully tropically themed as well. There are two full houses to tour, a rainbow Mickey head flower arrangement, and fun walk through attractions to “ride” too! There are items and furniture everywhere on this island in order to create the most perfect Disney themed scenes with a tropical vibe.
